The Paper Conservation Package-Enhanced (PCT-E) comes complete and is ready to use. Attach the suction platen to the stand, attach the hoses and start working. This machine is the standard-bearer for paper conservation worldwide. This package includes:

• An Enhanced Suction Platen with both Direct and Crossflow function
• An Acrylic Humidity Dome with Ultrasonic Humidifier
• A single or dual Motor MSC Vacuum Control Console (Depending on table size)
• An Electric Support Stand with motorized adjustable height and tilt capacity, or a heavy-duty non-adjustable steel base for larger sized tables

The MSC Suction Table is easy to unpack and doesn't require any specialized installation.  To set-up, install the Suction Platen and Humidification Dome on the Electric Support Stand.  Attach the MSC Vacuum Control Console's Suction Hose to the Suction Platen, and the unit is ready to perform a wide variety of suction or humidification treatments.  The PCT-E draws a uniform vacuum on the entire working surface. There are no ‘dead spots’ having no suction.

The Enhanced Suction Platen provides a stable platform during the multiple treatments an artifact may require.  Treatments requiring suction like spot leafcasting, stain removal, tape removal, foxing or mold reduction, vellum treatments, and aqueous linings, washing and flattening/drying are easy to perform.  Without having to move the object, other actions can be taken such as relaxation and humidification, lining, or vellum treatments can be easily done.  The Platen can even act as a photography base, using suction to flatten or hold an object in place while treatment photographs are taken.

After use, the PCT-E is low maintenance and has easy clean-up.  Simply clean the surfaces and drain any accumulated water from inside the platen or the control console.  Because the Suction Platen is constructed completely of aluminum with a perforated top, it is resistant to most solvents and resists abrasion or corrosion. An included removable polypropylene twill screen increases the airflow under the object. The screen is easily cleaned and inexpensive to replace.

What is Crossflow? Crossflow is an exclusive feature of the MSC PCT-E. When Crossflow is activated, it channels air upward to the top surface of the platen while still maintaining a vacuum overall. For certain treatments, this circulation of air allows drying action from the underside of the object even while the object is completely covered.

Moisture treatments on fragile items like pastels, charcoals and watercolors can be done with precision and ease with the MSC Acrylic Humidity Dome.  The dome retains moisture from an ultrasonic humidifier during treatments such as moisture relaxation, conditioning, wetting and relining.  The clear acrylic curved dome attaches to the rear of a suction platen with quick-release stainless steel hinges, and can be propped open with an air piston for ease of working on the suction platen while the dome is attached.  During humidification treatments, the interior can be easily and quickly accessed through one of the screw-on access ports on the front and back of the dome.  Domes include an aluminum frame to protect the edges and prevent warping while raising and lowering.

The Electric Table Stand is adjustable for work in both standing and sitting positions and can be tilted to any degree between fully vertical and fully horizontal.  The unit features locking casters so it can be positioned as needed and then locked into place.

The Vacuum Control Console contains one or two motors, depending on the size and use of the suction platen to which it will be connected.  Each Console features a variable speed controller to control the vacuum level, a vacuum gauge, an air compressor and airbrush attachment for doing solvent or wetting treatments, an internal liquid catch basin, noise reduction muffler, and an activated charcoal filter to catch solvent vapors.  Each unit is on casters and has 10 feet (9.1 meters) of exhaust hose that can be vented into a fume hood or out a window.
